The French e-commerce market is at the same time very similar and very distant from the Italian one. A turnover of around € 80 billion in 2017 and a progression of 14.3% vs 2016.
But e-Commerce is not a new phenomenon. We have to go back to the 2000s when Pixmania, Vente-Privee, Meetic and CDiscount were born. After several years, those who founded them are today the engine of the digital economy. In addition, the democratization of internet access providers and the birth of Free has enabled these digital entrepreneurs to help new start-ups.
And retail in all this? Fnac, Darty and the others? LaRedoute has been able to transform itself from a paper catalog to an e-commerce site and marketplace, while in Italy Postalmarket has disappeared.
Today’s marketplaces are within everyone’s reach, and so are the various technologies.
